General Description

  • Saga Saltram 40.
  • Designer  - Alan Pape.
  • Builder - K.R.Skentelbery & Son
  • Built 1996.

The Saltram 40 is a classic double-ended, cutter rigged cruising yacht fitted out to a high standard by Skentlebery of Plymouth. Ikinoo is a strongly built yacht finished in white GRP with a green stripe, white superstructure with green treadmaster on deck.

With her aft cockpit, short coachroof and flush deck, Ikinoo is a very attractive yacht of a type commonly regarded as being amongst the most seaworthy yachts built.

Originally fitted with a number of extras and upgrades over and above the standard Saga Saltram 40, Ikinoo is presented as a very well-equipped, easily handled cruising yacht

With her traditional transom hung rudder and tiller you can steer Ikinoo yourself, or leave it to either her electric autohelm or Monitor wind-vane self-steering system.

Below decks, her warm teak interior, exposed beams, green upholstery and Dickinson Newport diesel heater make her as well suited to northern climes as crossing oceans.

Hull, Deck and Keel

Standard Saga 40 double ended hull with short coach roof, designed by Alan Pape.

  • The hull is in white GRP, epoxied from new, with a green stripe. The superstructure is white, as is the deck with green Treadmaster.
  • Her short coachroof and wide side decks make for easy access forward for anchor and sail handling.
  • Traditional long keel with a cast iron shoe (5089kg). Substantial transome hung rudder extending to a keel fastening.
  • She is a very seaworthy yacht built with blue water cruising in mind.

Interior and Accommodation

Moving forward there is a settee berth to port, with lee cloth with bookshelves and lockers above. A folding table, doubling as a drinks locker, gives ample room for the whole crew to sit around.

To starboard, there is a pilot/coffin berth with two additional seats below.

A Newport Dickinson diesel fired heater, with its own fuel tank, ensure the main cabin stays nice and warm even in the worst of weather. Exposed beams give a nice traditional appearance.

Owners Cabin forward -
The forecabin has a raised offset double coffin berth to port. There are two good sized hanging lockers and a dressing table.

Bosuns locker -

Owner's Comments

We have owned Ikinoo since November 1998 and have extensively sailed the West Coast of Scotland in her over the years from Craobh Marina.  She is in sound condition and has been regularly maintained over the years with many upgrades, more recently we have replaced the furling gear, battery charger and have added a cockpit canopy.

We are selling the boat reluctantly due to personal circumstances with a view to downsizing at some point in the future.

Features

  • Total sail area - 64.75
