Southerly yachts are known for their variable draft swing keel design allowing them to be beached or to explore shallow creeks but to also sail extremely well with the deep draft of the swing keel, twin rudders for directional stability and a good sail plan.
Flying Cloud is named after the American Clipper ship that was co-owned by the great, great, grandfather of this yachts first owner and in 1851 set the record for New York to San Francisco via Cape Horn, a record that stood for over 100 years.
