Construction

 

RCD Status: The yacht conforms with the essential safety requirements of Directive 94/25EC or RCDII (2013/53/EU as appropriate (Recreational Craft Directive) and is categorised A – “Ocean”

 

Hull, Deck & Superstructure Construction:

  • Structural engineering is by High Modulus, LIARA is constructed using foam with a single skin. E-glass/aramid hybrid fibre is used for durability and the cabin structure, moulded chain plates and deck are reinforced with carbon fibre.
  • Carbon vacuum infused cored hull construction using E-Glass.
  • Carbon superstructure and deck construction.
  • Cored composite deck construction.
  • Bonded teak laid decks to ring deck and to the cockpit area.
  • Stainless steel and teak external trim.
  • Use of Nomex core on interior joinery.
  • All teak deck joints recaulked.
  • Hull repainted Matterhorn white in Awlcraft (2017).

 

Keel & Rudder:

  • Bizalloy 80 fin keel and lead cast bulb reduces draft and wetted surface area. At the same time stability is maintained.
  • Fully balanced, foam filled carbon rudder.
  • Emergency jury steering tiller.

Machinery

Engine & Gearboxes:

  • 1 x Yanmar 190hp Turbo 4LHA-DTP.
  • Hurth gearbox.
  • Air intake tube extended for the engine room air intake.

 

Maintenance & Performance:

  • Engine RPM and hours counter broke in Nov 2020 @ 4604 hours.
  • New counter @ 160 hours (Nov 2023).
  • Every second year the engine received a 500 h service. In the other year the engine received a 1000 h service, regardless of run time hours, and a 2000 h service in 2018.
  • Full engine service (2023) – including new injector nozzles.
  • Cruising speed – approx 7 knots @ 1750rpm.
  • Maximum speed – approx 9.5 knots @ 2400rpm.
  • Fuel consumption at cruising speed – approx 7 litres per hour.
  • Range @ cruising speed – approx 1000Nm.

 

Propulsion & Steering:

  • MaxProp self-feathering 3 blades propeller.
  • Bowthruster Max-Power Retract R200 with twin 2-blade aluminum propeller.
  • 2 x custom carbon steering wheels.

 

Other Mechanical Equipment:

  • Hydraulic power pack to drive the vang, outhaul, backstays
  • Air conditioning ducting and equipment fitted but not operational at this time.

Electrical Systems

 

  • The AC system may be powered by generator, inverter or 16 amp shore power connection
  • The DC system is powered by individual Mastervolt and Zenith battery banks (5) for Service, Navigation, Generator starting, Main engine starting and Bow Thrusters/Capstan.
  • DC-DC converter 24 to 12V for loading the navigation batteries installed.
  • Residual current circuit breaker incorporated in 220 V panel.
  • 24 V high amp plug for tender and fender air pump.
  • ISO isolation transformer 220V/110V 8 kva.

 

Battery Banks:

  • Battery management system Mastervolt BTM III.
  • Main batteries - Mastervolt 750 amp 24V MVSV 12 cells.
  • Generator battery.
  • Engine battery.
  • Additional anchor capstain and bow thruster batteries.
  • Battery switch to isolate navigation battery from the main batteries.

 

Battery Chargers:

  • 2 pcs.Mastervolt 24/100.
  • 1 pcs. Mastervolt 12/15.
  • 1 pcs.Mastervolt 24/6.

 

Inverter:

  • Mastervolt 2500 Watt DC-to-AC inverter.
  • Mastervolt DC-DC 24/12.

 

Alternator:

  • 175-Amp engine-mounted alternator.

 

Generator:

  • 1 x Lugger Northern Light generator M843 NW 2.3.
  • Every second year the generator received a 200 h service. In the other year the generator received a 500 h service, regardless of run time hours. 1000 hours service 2018.
  • Serviced and replace zinc anodes, impeller, etc. (2023).

 

Shore Power:

  • 220V shore power system delivering both 220V via ring main and 12V and 24V ships’ power.
  • ISO-Transformer 8kVa 220V/110V resin encapsulated and overload protection with soft start.

Plumbing Systems

Fresh Water & Water Heating System:

  • Isotherm Basic 50 water boiler run from shore power and engine.
  • Pressure water system.
  • Circulation pump 24V for the hot water.

 

Watermaker:

  • SeaFresh watermaker, osmosis type (approx. 120 litres/hour).

 

Bilge Pumps:

  • Primary 4 standalone bilge pumps (serviced Nov 2021) with automatic switches and independent high water alarm switches.
  • Emergency bilge / fire pumping by engine-driven clutch pump with 4 suctions. The respective areas can be pumped out by selecting the appropriate set of valves. The pump can also function as a fire pump.

 

Gray & Black Water:

  • Gray water tank for the galley sink.
  • Black water tank 200 lt with Mercator pump and connection for shore-based suction system.
  • Every toilette has a two-way tap (Blackwater tank or sea).

Tankage

Fuel:

  • 1,090 litres in 3 tanks.
  • Fuel transfer pump to shift the fuel between the tanks.

 

Fresh Water:

  • 900 litres in 2 tanks.

  • LCD touch screen boat monitoring and alarm system (tanks, lights pumps, bilge alarms, etc.).

  • Vitrifrigo compressor cool box 24V integrated in the cockpit table.

 

Heads/Showers:

  • Mobiflash electic fresh water toilets in the owner and guest head.
  • Mobiflash electric fresh and seawater toilet in the crew head.

 

Heating & Ventilation:

  • 4 Dometic Crusair 220V seawater cooled units with a 220 V central sea water pump (not operating).

 

Entertainment:

  • Radio with speakers in master cabin, saloon ceiling and waterproof speakers in cockpit.

 

Lighting:

  • LED lighting throughout.
  • Lopolight at masthead.

Accommodation

  • 8 berths in 4 cabins.
  • LIARA has versatile and well-designed accommodation for easy shipboard life - whether she is run as a family yacht or with crew.
  • Maritime Interiors and Esme McDonald specified the interior. The interior woodwork is executed in Sapele mahogany veneer which is applied over foam core.
  • The detailing in LIARA’s interior – cappings, fiddles and corner posts are built in either solid burr, ebony or white oak. There are mahogany margin boards around the cabin soles which are inlaid.
  • All cabin doors are built of lightweight composite foam core. These are veneered. The door frames are built in solid wood.
  • The companionway has a recessed washboard, which is counter balanced.
  • All hatches are fitted with integral blackouts and fly screens.
  • Mahogany floorboards throughout.

Forepeak:

  • Stowage for sails, aluminum alloy boarding ladder, outboard, etc.

 

Guest Head:

  • Located forward for the two guest cabins with a spacious shower.

 

Forward Guest Cabin (Port):

  • With double berth.
  • Full length hanging lockers with drawer beneath and cupboards above the berth providing lots of storage.

 

Forward Guest Cabin (Starboard):

  • With upper and lower berths.
  • Ample storage including full height hanging lockers and pull out drawers below and cupboards above beds.

 

Saloon & Navigation Area:

  • Sofa to port with matching chairs.
  • There is a dining table with lovely marquetry. There is a lift out leaf to increase or reduce its size as you wish.
  • Ocean Air blinds are fitted in the upper windows and all the port lights have lined curtains
  • Navigation area to starboard.

 

Galley:

  • The countertop as well as the looker above the countertop are in Corian 'Azure'.
  • Ample storage locker with a lot of space.
  • Plenty of work space.
  • Four sockets 220V for kitchen machines and food processors/coffeemaker.
  • Sink with pressurized water and a gray water tank 100lt.

 

Aft Guest/Crew Cabin:

  • Upper and lower berth cabin.
  • Combined heads compartment for crew or guests.

 

The Master Stateroom:

  • Large centreline double berth.
  • Comfortable sofas both port and starboard.
