This 1973 Bristol 40 is a true classic - a beautifully crafted vessel with solid construction and timeless lines. Designed by Ted Hood and built by Bristol Yachts, it's known for its durability and performance, making it a great choice for coastal cruising or bluewater sailing. The long keel with a cutaway forefoot provides both stability and tracking ability.
The current owner has made many upgrades since he bought the vessel in the early 90s. New house batteries in 2022, new starter batteries in 2023, new fresh water pump for galley / head in 2023, and new toilet in 2023 just to name a few.
The Perkins 4-107 50 HP engine is well-loved by many sailors for its efficiency and longevity. With a 31-gallon fuel tank, the Bristol 40 has a reasonable range under power, while the generous 130-gallon fresh water capacity makes it well-suited for extended cruising.
The Bristol 40's interior is well-designed for both comfort and practicality, making it a great choice for extended cruising. With sleeping arrangements for six, it provides a cozy yet functional living space. The galley, featuring a propane-fired stove and oven, ensures meal prep is manageable even on longer journeys. The inclusion of a navigation station opposite the galley shows the thoughtful layout, balancing convenience and efficiency for sailors.
The bow cabin has a double-hinged hatch for ventilation, that can be opened facing forward or aft. There is also a dorade box on the forward deck.
With the primary and secondary jib winches in the cockpit, adjusting the headsail is convenient, while the jib halyard winch for smooth hoisting. Jiffy reefing is a great feature, allowing sailors to quickly reduce sail area when the wind picks up ideal for cruising comfort and safety. The bow-mounted anchor roller is another thoughtful touch, making anchoring more straightforward.

Clean, sand, and prep bottom for Two (2) Coats of Pettit Odyssey 60 black ablative paint.
Install new Grounding Plate.
Install new Zinc on shaft.
Design, construct, and install new Propane Tank compartment.
Exercise and grease all seven (7) seacocks/thru hulls. Replace/install new seacock for sink in the head.

This vessel is in really good shape for its age. The deck is clean and well arranged with no soft spots. All lines, winches and sails look to be in good shape along with the wood trim throughout the cockpit. All electronics are clean, easy to read and in fine working order. Down below has also been very well taken care of and includes a few upgrades including new marble countertops in both the galley and the head.
