Dometic Marine Launches Guide to Holding Tanks

'Cleaning Up Our Waters'

'Who wants to swim in an area where boaters may have directly discharged untreated sewage?' That's one of the questions asked by Dometic Marine's first advisory guide 'Cleaning Up Our Waters', just published on www.dometic.com/cleanwater as a free downloadable PDF. The six-page guide will also be available from Dometic's dealers, global sales companies and company stands at the forthcoming Autumn Boat Shows.

Dometic Marine has sold over 300,000 holding tank systems for boats since the early 1970s and used its vast experience and knowledge to create a guide that educates and informs boat owners about the importance and value of installing a holding tank.

Ned Trigg, Dometic's Senior VP of Global Systems Sales  explains, 'The question of whether or not to install a holding tank is being asked more frequently in Europe as legislation tightens and people become more aware of the damage caused by the direct discharge of black water into the sea. To help boaters understand the importance of having a holding tank on their pleasure boat we produced 'Cleaning Up Our Waters' which answers frequently asked questions and helps boaters make responsible decisions about whether or not to install a holding tank.'

Although the leisure boater is a minor contributor of pollutants that directly enter the sea, any discharge of untreated waste has a direct impact when it happens close to the coast or in marinas where other boaters and swimmers congregate.

The advisory guide includes topics such as the workings of a holding tank explained, the potential harm of human sewage (black water), tips on tank installation and current legislation for boaters cruising in Europe.
