About this Zimmerman Marine 36

Zimmerman Marine has developed a well earned reputation for doing a highly detailed build out of downeast boats, many on the BHM 36 Hull such as this example.  CARINA is one of their best!  She is very well equipped and finished to a higher standard than many of the others and has several inventory items (e.g. Nautical Structures 800 lb dinghy davit) and finish details (e.g.. all through hulls and deck mounted hardware penetrations de-cored and back filled with epoxy) that the others do not.  Coupled with her relatively low hours this Zimmerman 36 makes for a compelling and handsome downeast styled yacht.

Vessel Walk Thru

This beautifully finished Zimmerman Marine 36 offers accommodations for up to four in a single stateroom layout in a nicely detailed full varnished cherry interior with varnished hard maple cabin soles.  Designed to be operated without a lot of fuss. There is an abundance of natural light and ventilation with her 5 opening ports, 3 hatches, and a salon surrounded with windows all of which are sliders with screens.  When all of that natural ventilation simply is not enough there are two reverse cycle (heat & cool) air conditioning units that will keep the interior pleasant in a wide range of weather.  Artificial light is equally well thought out with numerous overhead lamps throughout as well as reading lamps at the berth and settee.  Headroom is 6'-4" to 6'-5" throughout the salon and 6'-2" in the stateroom

Starting forward is the private Stateroom with 6'-8" in length V-berth below which there is storage in drawers and lockers while above the berth there are under deck storage lockers and cubbies P&S and an access hatch to the anchor locker at the forward bulkhead.  Aft and to port is a large bureau with 5 drawers while to starboard is a generous hanging locker.

The enclosed Head is next aft and to starboard featuring a large separate stall shower compartment with seat, Vacuflush fresh water toilet (just 1 quart/per flush), and vanity with porcelain sink and H&C water and plenty of storage.

Opposite to port is the U shaped Galley with Corian counter tops, deep double basin stainless steel sinks with H&C pressure water, Force 10, three burner propane stove with oven, Microwave oven and plenty of storage in lockers and drawers.  Chilled foodstuffs are easily handled in a large top load Isotherm refrigeration until and separate freezer box.

Up four steps (with storage under) to the Salon & Helm.  The helm station is to starboard with a convenient side door with screen while to port there is a companion seat (both Stidd seats) and Navigation desk.  Aft of this is a large L-shaped settee with storage under.  Dining is off a hi/lo pedestal table which drops to convert to a double berth when occasion dictates.  Opposite is a swivel chair with ottoman and entertainment center with book shelves etc.

The center-line door, again with screen, accesses the full beam cockpit with transom door, H&C cockpit shower and storage in lazarettes and under deck storage P&S.  The side decks are ensconced with full length safety rails to provide easy and safe access forward and aft.

The Zimmerman Marine 36s done on the BHM 36 hull is a very nicely finished and practical downeast yacht.  The listing broker has sold two other of Zimmerman Marine's boats and is very familiar with them.  They are serious sea boats and with their single engine and propeller and large rudder protected by a long full skeg they are sea kindly, track well and handy around the dock even without the bow thruster.  One key element is that as they set up to do these boats on a regular basis they did a much better job with engine space insulation than builder or finishers who did a boat here and there making her more quiet than many other downeast yachts.  This is the next to last of the 36s built by Zimmerman Marine and it has been suggested that she was the most nicely finished and detailed as well as equipped example of their work.

Construction, Hull and Deck

Fiberglass hull with Stars & Stripes Blue Awl grip finish with off white boot stripe and a green Micron CSC ablative anti fouling paint below the waterline.  The hull is cored with Corecell closed cell PVC foam coring above the waterline and solid fiberglass below.  The hull to deck joint is made using an epoxy adhesive through bolted every 12".

Fiberglass decks and house with end grain balsa coring finished with white gel-coat and light grew Awlgrip with Griptex in appropriate non-skied areas.  To protect against moisture incursion into the core material at every piece of hardware the hull/house/deck was de-cored and back filled with epoxy.  To keep maintenance easy on the personal time and wallet this Zimmerman Marine 36 is completed with a NO WOOD exterior.  Clever use of stainless caps and paint details provide attractive details.
