About this Beneteau Oceanis 40

The Beneteau Oceanis 40 is an unmistakable invitation to the pleasure of design, comfort and performance. Commissioned by ourselves in 2009, She has been well looked after through all 2 owners and boasts an extensive equipment list. This beautiful Oceanis 40 is perfect for long getaways with plenty off accommodation to keep the family happy. Also an absolute joy to sail with a fantastic balance between stability and performance.

Construction

Beautifully designed and appointed sailing yacht. The hull is of single-skinned GRP construction with added areas of reinforcement (keel, rudder, chainplates, hull / deck joint) to further strengthen the hull structure. Within the hull is a single-skinned structural inner moulding which is bonded and laminated to the hull. This reinforces the hull structure as it takes and absorbs the stresses at pressure points such as chain plate tie rods, keel and rudder reducing strain on the hull. The surface of the inner moulding is finished in white gel making it easier to clean.

The hull topsides are finished in high gloss white flow coat with complimenting silver livery. The deck is of glass fibre and balsa sandwich construction for optimum strength / weight ratio as well as providing excellent heat and sound insulation. All working areas and areas of movement around the deck are provided with a moulded non-slip diamond point finish.

The keel is fitted to the boat by a system of stainless steel bolts with stainless steel backing plates. The keel itself is of cast iron and is the shallow draft version. To increase durability, the keel is given an anti-corrosion treatment and improved finish in the factory before assembly, using epoxy-based coatings and paint. The companionable cockpit is enormous with plentiful stowage lockers. These are situated to port and starboard of cockpit table, under starboard helm seat and in the wet locker between helm seats. There is a dedicated gas locker with space for 2 bottles located under port helm seat. The cockpit benches are teak topped as is the cockpit sole.

Twin steering consoles with stainless steel handrail with ample space for navigation instruments. Each helm has an illuminated compass and leather covered stainless steel wheels. The engine control panel located at the starboard helm along with the single lever engine control, bow thruster control and electric windlass control.

Massive GRP cockpit table inlaid with solid wood with 2 folding leaves, oddments locker, bottle rack and pivoting support for the Raymarine C80 chart plotter. This can be angled to whichever helm is in use at the time. There is also a 12V socket for the removable lamp which is lovely when dining outside of an evening.

Engine and Electrics

Vessel is powered by a Yanmar 3JH4E 40 Hp inboard diesel engine with reduction gearbox driving stainless steel shaft and three bladed propeller. The engine is mounted on rubberised mounts attached on to the hull inner moulding to reduce noise and vibration. The engine compartment itself is insulated with soundproofing foam to further minimise noise and is ventilated by a motorised air intake which forces any dangerous fumes through an exhaust on transom.

Engine access is easy with main access via the companionway steps supported by two gas struts. A further 2 side access hatches are situated in the aft cabins for maintenance and daily checks. Fuel is stored in a 200-litre rotomoulded fuel tank with electronic sender gauge and located under aft port berth. This is fitted with a sea water and diesel filter with sediment reservoir. The engine control panel with built-in key start is located in the cockpit next to the starboard helm and is fitted with audible and visual warnings for oil pressure, water temperature and charging.

There is a electrical panel at the chart table split into 12/220V with 10 x 12V switches and 11 fused switches. The addition of a 12V cigarette lighter style socket is ideal for phone charging. There is an illuminated panel showing volts, water tank and fuel level gauges. There are also low battery, low diesel and low water tanks alarms. 12V power is provided by a two 140 Amp service battery located beneath aft starboard cabin and a 110 Amp engine battery located beneath the sole at the foot of the companionway. These are recharged via the 80 Amp alternator coupled to the engine or via the 40amp battery charger when hooked up to shore power.

Sail Area

Deck stepped 9/10 fractional aluminium mast with two sets of aft swept spreaders. Stainless steel standing rigging with twin backstays. All lines led aft to cockpit making short handed sailing comfortable. Self tailing winches for halyards and sheets with upgraded electric coach roof mounted halyard winch on port side of companionway. Aluminium boom with stack pack system for mainsail.

Sails in include semi full battened mainsail and furling genoa with UV strip.

Accomodation

The interior is plush and comfortable with fruit tree stained woodwork and Parquet look laminated soles. The fabric lining to hull in saloon and cabins make the boat both light and welcoming.

The main saloon is entered from the companionway with louvered saloon style doors and large Perspex sliding hatch. To port is the linear galley with rectangular stainless steel double sink, mixer tap with hot and cold pressurised water and stainless steel gimballed 2-burner hob and oven and grill with stainless steel safety rail. Large top-opening 170 L icebox with 12 V refrigerating unit keep the perishables fresh and off course the wine and beers chilled. Plentiful white laminated worktops for preparation and lots of stowage such as large locker with double doors under sink with wastebin, cutlery drawer, hull mounted stowage units and shelf with stainless steel fiddle. Light and ventilation so important in this area are well catered for with halogen deck head lights, light over hob, opening hull ports (1 port / 1 starboard) with curtains and large double panoramic windows port and starboard with pleated blinds.

This is the three cabin version with twin aft guest cabins and owners ensuite cabin forward. Both aft cabins have large double berths, opening ports, wardrobe hanging space and 12V deck and reading lights. The starboard aft cabin has access from the cabin itself into the large saloon heads. The heads has a moulded sink unit, mirrored storage units, large panoramic window with Oceanair privacy blind and marine toilet with holding tank. Separate shower stall hot and cold pressurised water fixed shower unit and easy clean PMNA shower screen.

The "Owners" forward cabin features large double berth, hanging locker, shelved locker, opening ports and 12V deck and reading lights. Ensuite heads compartment with marine toilet and holding tank, sink unit and shower with sliding Perspex screen.

Boat is kept warm and dry by Eberspacher diesel heating.
