About this Camano 31 Trawler

September is a lovely small trawler perfect for cruising America’s Great Loop. September completed the Loop in 2016 and is ready to go again.  The Camano 31s  were designed for the Pacific Northwest and are strongly constructed.  She provides a smooth dry ride due to her flaired bow.  At trawling speeds she is very fuel economical, but is capable of speeds up to 14 knots because of her unique hull design.

September was purchased in 2013 by the present owners specifically for a three year adventure on the great loop with many side trips.  The large windows in the spacious salon permit cruising in comfort in any weather.  She can also be operated from the bridge.  Head room in the salon, galley and under the bimini on the bridge accommodates tall persons. The forward stateroom contains a spacious V-berth while the dinette table converts to a comfortable double berth.  The galley is well laid out and is equipped with a Force 10 stove, oven, and a microwave.

The reliable 200hp Volvo Penta diesel has 2570 hours and the genset has less than 200 hours.  The propeller, shaft, and rudder are protected from damage by a skeg and SS keel shoe. Solidly built and extremely manuverable, this well cared for yacht is a delight to operate

Accommodations:

The V-berth forward has an insert to form a spacious double.  There are three lined storage compartments under the mattresses and two drawers under the insert.  Mattresses have been recently recovered and the boat comes with a full set of sheets and pillow cases. The forward stateroom has two opening side ports with curtains and shelves and two individual reading lights. There is a large opening hatch with built-in roll-up screen and light curtain.

Aft of the V-berth is a large hanging locker then a step up to the galley.  The galley is designed for efficiency and completely equipped for preparation of gourmet meals. To starboard off the galley is the bright and airey head.  Next comes two steps up to the salon and lower helm station.  The helm, to starboard, includes all engine, navigation, and entertainment electronics.

The bright spacious and attractive salon includes cabinets on the starboard side and a bookcase and storage drawer to port.  The cushions for the large dinette table have recently been redone, including the extra cushions to turn the table into a full size double berth when the table is lowered.  Curtains on each side provide privacy in the salon when desired. One window on port, starboard, and aft bulkheads open and are screened.  AC and reverse cycle heat is distributed to vents in the salon, galley and V-berth compartments.  The door at the rear of the salon has a convenient roller screen to fully cover the doorway.

The aft cockpit is covered by an awning, has a swinging door to the swim platform and 4 bulkhead storage compartments.  There is a large storage compartment under the cockpit as well.  A ladder from the cockpit leads up to the bridge which is equipped with three rotating pedestal cushioned seats and two fold up deck chairs.  There is also a large dockbox for additional storage on the bridge.  A full helm with all of the instruments and electronics is also on the bridge.

The engine compartments is under the salon floor and is accessed by two large hatches._On deck there are many cleats and a large sampson post on the front desk.  The Bruce anchor, 50’ of chain and 100’ of anchor line are retrieved by an electric windless.

Manufacturer Description:

The Camano Troll is a 31-foot boat with a flybridge that includes three pedestal seats, an adjustable centre seat with slider, and a stainless steel steering wheel.  With a 10-foot 6-inch beam for stability and 5 feet of freeboard at the bow, weather is not going to threaten this boat.

The Camano runs 15 knots with a single 200 hp Volvo Diesel. The interior offers the same usable room as many 33-foot production boats and is much easier to handle. With the factory standard bow thruster, one person can dock the boat even in very tight spots. The Camano features an open cruising layout (salon and aft deck on the same level), with a full-size bridge.

The open, bright interior provides great visibility from any part of the seating area with its picture window view. The interior is light and friendly. Cabinets and trim are mahogany, the cushions are covered with premium fabrics and the floor is oak. Accommodations are as open as possible - the salon measures 8-feet, 10-inches by 10 feet and is on the same level as the aft deck which is 40 square feet. The galley and head are half a level down, with a U-shaped galley out of the traffic area but still open to the salon. With a large counter area extending under the sidedecks there is lots of room for full-sized stove with oven, refrigerator, microwave, and large sink. Storage space is provided including dishlocker outboard of the fridge. The shower is built in as a part of the head area. The dinette easily converts to a double berth while the forward berth has a filler available to make a double.

The Keelform hull is the result of a science program of the University of British Columbia and Camano Marine. Keelform is a unique bottom shape with large displacement keel and very wide waterline beam. Test results show almost no planing angle change or "hump" in the horsepower curve between displacement and planing speeds which, in the case of a boat this size, is between 7 and 15 knots. While most semidisplacement boats are straining and reaching their horsepower limit, the Camano is cruising comfortably up to 12 knots. The hull reduces fuel consumption in the most widely used speed range - between 10 and 15 knots; can be stabilized to prevent the boat from rolling in rough seas; runs 10-15 knots top speed, with a single 200 hp Diesel engine; and provides a smooth, dry ride in rough water because of a special flare in the bow section.

The hull of the Camano is 100 per cent hand-laid, with no "chopped strand," and thicker than the hulls of comparable production boats. The boat has a heavily built, very strong inner liner laminated into the lower portion of the hull; the bulkheads are thoroughly laminated into place from both sides as are the other parts of the interior. The impact and tear strength of a Camano hull is ten times higher than most production boats. Running aground with the Troll is not a problem. Prop, prop shaft and rudder of the Camano are protected by a heavily reinforced skeg and keel shoe. The inboard diesel combined with the available electric bow thruster result in a handling advantage even over twin stern drives.
