The Arctic has long been a firm favourite of adventurous yacht owners looking to break away from the usual seasonal warmer regions. However, chartering in Northern Norway has always been an issue due to the lack of yachts and experienced crew in the area. Off the back of several “by the berth” operators raising the profile of Arctic sailing, larger private yachts are now exploring the regions and opening up weeks to whole boat crewed charter.

Where to go?

There are two main regions for cruising in Arctic Norway. Lofoten and Svalbard.

Lofoten is a stunning archipelago in North Western Norway. Once there, the clear blue waters, craggy granite mountains and cute little fishing villages make Lofoten’s beauty truly unparalleled. Popular with hikers, wildlife enthusiasts, surfers, sailors and festival goers making a pilgrimage to Trænafestivalen, Lofoten is a haven for adventurists.

Svalbard is another kettle of fish. Pushing even further north to over 77°N to one of the world’s most Northerly inhabited places, you’re into the land of rugged, remote terrain of glaciers, polar bears, reindeer and Arctic foxes. Bucket list is an understatement.
