CRYSTAL BALL - The Future is here!

16 December 2005 - 12:34

Blohm + Voss have signed a contract for a large Mega Yacht for delivery 2007. The order has been secured against international competition. The yacht will be constructed using the latest engineering and production technologies of the Hamburg yard, including virtual reality design and laser cutting and welding technology.

Like with any yacht contract of Blohm + Voss, further details of the contract will be strictly confidential. The contract underlines the strengthened dedication of Blohm + Voss to Mega Yacht building.

We have always enjoyed a close, fruitful working spirit with the world’s premier designers, naval architects and interior stylists. These peers names list is long and includes amongst others, Cox and Stevens, Ceasar Pinnau, Terrance Disdale, Andrew Winch, Martin Francis, J.F. Platou, Luigi Sturchio, Tim Heywood, Philippe Starck, New Cruise, Espen Oino, Paolo Scanu, Hermidas Atabeyki and Donald Starkey.

Building a L-XXXL yacht is a hugely creative interactive process between the client, designers, engineers, the yard and countless sub-suppliers. The yard acts as the system integrator, delivering a turnkey ready-to-go work of art. CAD/CAM systems speed up and smoothen the industrial side of production. Virtual reality 3D-software gives the future owner and his teams insight into every detail and every space long before the vessel is ever built.

Martin Francis designed the radically modern ECO well ahead of contemporary design thinking already in 1991. His vision for the 140 m (459 ft) CRYSTAL BALL with its translucent glass superstructure and stand-alone helipad is yet again decades ahead of its time.
