CANNES INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW : POST-SHOW REPORT

30 September 2005 - 13:24

The 28th Cannes International Boat Show which took place from 14 - 19 September, has once again delighted the show's 54,000 visitors. With more than 160 new models on display for the first time, Cannes has confirmed its position as a reference among in-water shows. It still arouses dreams and the desire to get away...

Strengthened by its success, the Cannes International Boat Show unquestionably Europe's leading in-water-boat show has turned a new corner this year with 500 boats, 10 to 45 metres, compared to 250 in 2000. Manufacturers, buyers and trade professionals all agree to acknowledge that this pre-autumn event has become the most prestigious showcase for unveiling their new models.

An Increasingly International Show

The show continues to develop internationally, receiving the key players in pleasure boating and luxury yachting from everywhere around the world: Asia, Middle East, Europe, Oceania and America. A total of 27 countries participated in 2005 (a 6% increase) compared to fifteen in 2000, proof that this major gathering cannot be ignored.

For the first time, several Chinese, American, and European delegations, comprised of numerous official personalities and private investors, came to discover the show and the French marine industries.

An Excellent Business Climate Thanks to the Upmarket Show Visitors

The 8% increase in attendance confirms the visitors growing interest in top of the range products. In all, 20% of the visitors came from abroad to attend (compared to 13% in 2004 and 6% in 2000). The increase in the number and amount of transactions carried out illustrates the high purchasing power of the clientele (1 out of every 4 visitors owns a second home*).

The first surveys about the attendance at this year s show reveal that 42% of the visitors were planning a purchase and 22% were planning to place an order*.

Toward New Objectives

The organisers have succeeded the technical exploits to extend the show exhibition space still more: there are now 4 km of quays and pontoons devoted to pleasure boating...

Proof of their ingenuity, one of the finest successes of these technical achievements is illustrated by the Traversante . This 170- metre long crossover facilitated the junction between the Jetée Albert Edouard and the Quai Max Laubeuf.

This new passage, which at its centre has a pivoting footbridge, made it possible to accommodate 25 additional yachts and link up the two far ends of the harbour, while favouring the continuous flow of visitors as well.

Extensions unfortunately have their limits: a better dialogue between the Nice-Côte d Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the organisers ought to soon be undertaken to free new prospects allowing for the extension of the present site in future years, an essential condition for the development of the Cannes International Boat Show.

At the end of this great week, the French Nautical Industries Federation (FIN) and Reed Expositions France wish to thank the Nice Côte d Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry for its cooperation as well as the show s official partners: Audi and Blancpain, Blanc Bleu, Unopiù, Dinh Van, and G.H. Mumm.
