Yacht Club Cala d’Or sponsoring Majorca’s Toni Manresa in the XXVIII edition of the world famous Dakar Rally

The Yacht Club Cala d’Or is sponsoring Majorca’s Toni Manresa in the XXVIII edition of the world famous Dakar Rally, which will take place from December 31, 2005, to January 15, 2006. The club hosted a special reception to present Toni Manresa and his co-pilot Xicu Ferrer with their Nissan 4 x 4 on Saturday, August 13.
Toni Manresa, from the Majorcan village of Calonge, has participated in previous Dakar Rally events, each occasion with a Catalonian team in the truck category, and goes to this year’s Lisbon-Dakar rally representing the island with his Nissan 4 x 4. “I’m very excited about this year’s rally,” says Toni Manresa.
“Majorca is winning ground in international sports events,” says Pam Op den Brouw, managing director of the Yacht Club Cala d’Or, a private members club situated on the popular Mediterranean island. “We have decided to support Toni Manresa in the Lisbon-Dakar rally, which I’m sure is going to attract a lot of attention to the island.”
The Yacht Club Cala d’Or is campaigning to help promote Majorca abroad through various events, such as the travelling photographic exhibition Mallorca Enchanted (www.mallorcaenchanted.com), designed to give visitors in the UK a taste of the island’s beautiful countryside, its coastline and lifestyle through a series of images and talks, and by participating in the boat shows of Southampton, London, Monaco and Düsseldorf, and the tourism fairs in London, Berlin and Madrid.
“We want to attract special people to Majorca,” says Pam Op den Brouw. “These events give us the opportunities we are looking for to highlight the beauty, history and cultural attractions this island has to offer.”
The Yacht Club Cala d’Or is a private members’ club for sailors, owners of Majorcan second homes, local residents and entrepreneurs, and is located at the Cala d’Or marina on the island’s south east coast. With Palma airport less than an hour’s drive away, it is ideally situated for corporate events or leisure breaks.
