Andy Hind Yachting (Lymington, United Kingdom)

21 January 2005 - 14:34

I have always been passionate about boats and everything to do with the sea. I was taught to sail by my father on Poole Harbour and raced with him for many years in dinghies on Chichester Harbour and later in his Sparkman and Stephens designed She 27. Sailing became a way of life and in the late seventies I joined Rondar Boats, the racing dinghy builder, based in the New Forest. Sailing was part of the job and my involvement with the marine industry started there.

I moved to Lymington in '78 - what a wonderful town sea on one side, the New Forest on the other and a great place to live and sail. I worked for Westerly over in the Hamble sales office from 86 through to 2000 with a break in the middle selling the Danish built X Yacht range. In 2000 I set up Tangent Yachting to market the American J Boat range in the UK again based in Hamble. However, after 16 years of driving up and down the M27 between Lymington and Hamble I took the decision to achieve my ambition of being able to walk to work!

So, after 25 years in the marine industry, I set up Andy Hind Yachting, twenty minutes walk away from my home in Lymington, as an alternative to the big chain brokerages to offer a personal and knowledgeable service to boat sellers and buyers alike. As well as brokerage I am also working closely with Arcona Yachts UK to market the Swedish Arcona range of high performance cruisers. These really are yachts for the very discerning stunningly beautiful, very fast and engineered in typical Swedish fashion.

In addition AHY is also becoming involved in a very exciting charter opportunity offering anyone who has ever wondered what it would be like to race an 80' Grand Prix maxi yacht in some of the world's most prestigious events the chance to do so. Races would include the Sydney - Hobart, Cape Town - Rio, Carribean circuit etc etc. As this project developes this site will be updated

I have my own boat, White Mischief, moored on Lymington River. A very slippery 29 footer (designed by a Swede) she has over the last ten years provided me with a great deal of success in all the main Solent based events including Cowes Week and the Round the Island race. In ten years of the R.T.I., we have never been worse than 5th in class, winning twice. Second ambition the Gold Roman Bowl for the overall winner on my mantlepiece
