Two dead as fishing boat capsizes


Two crew members have died and the skipper is feared trapped after a Belgian fishing vessel capsized 11 miles off Beachy Head, East Sussex. Coastguards said a 21-year-old survivor, believed to be the nephew of the boat's captain, was rescued and taken to hospital in Eastbourne.

Pardon Me? - Drug charge sailor finally freed!


A British yachtsman held in a Moroccan jail over drugs charges has been freed. John Packwood, 42, a marine engineer from the Isle Of Wight, was facing charges of drug trafficking and association with criminals. He was employed to deliver a yacht that was later used in a drug deal. He had always maintained his innocence. Three weeks ago a judge ruled that he should to stand trial, but on Thursday he was released from jail after he received a pardon from the king.

The last ocean liner built at Vickers Armstrong Ltd, Barrow in Furness and indeed the largest ocean liner ever built in England is now being scrapped in China following damaged during a severe storm on the 17th June 2004, which resulted in a 2.2 meter gash in her bow.

The duo onboard Hot Lemon V, a Scorpion Sports Cruiser, have trounced the under 30 foot World Record for the fastest powerboat sprint around Britain. The circumnavigation was completed in 31 hours 22 minutes and 46 seconds.

UK - Personal Watercraft Road Shows coming to a town near you


In preparation for the Summer season, the Personal Watercraft Partnership will be hitting the road again with a series of road shows. The road shows aim to promote the safe use of personal watercraft, often known as wet bikes or jet skis, in busy coastal areas. Local authorities, coastguards, harbour masters and anyone interested in safety on the water are encouraged to attend.

Three killed as speedboat hits rocks in Scottish loch


Three people died and three others were taken to hospital after their speedboat struck rocks on a Scottish loch early yesterday. Four of those on board were believed to have become trapped in the wheelhouse after the 21ft vessel hit an outcrop on Loch Fyne, Argyll.

Joyon sets North Atlantic record!


Frenchman Francis Joyon has smashed the world record for the crossing of the North Atlantic by a solo yachtsman. The 49-year-old came home in six days, four hours, one minute and 37 seconds in his 27.20m trimaran, averaging 19.75 knots in the west-east crossing.

Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy looks to the future with the 2012 Olympic bid win!
