Bringing a Buyer to Your Broker

Hi Everyone, I am currently employed as the Mate on a yacht that is for sale in FL. I have recently found a previous business partner of mine that is very interested in the purchase of the yacht I work on. Though I am not a Broker I do believe I should be compensated with a portion of the commission of the sale if I have brought the buyer to the table. Since I have no experience in the sale of yachts, I am unsure of what is considered to be the correct way of handleing this with our yachts broker. Any and all advice would be welcome. Thanks.

Talk to your boss! 2-8% is a broker charge!

Sounds fair that you should be compensated. But I wouldn't expect to get the same comission as a broker. Because brokers will actively market boats which attracts a cost that needs to be covered. Sounds like you've found a buyer by luck rather than through advertising etc.

I suppose it depends how generous your boss is!

It is very fair to get compensated, however do not expect to be or make what the Broker does. From a legal standpoint, have a broker manage the deal, and the seller and/or broker should kick back some cash to you for finding a buyer.
