She’s big, she’s fast and she’s the new Scape 51...
Built of epoxy composites, the first Scape 51 sped around Table Bay with 32 passengers and delighted her owners, builders and designer with her outstanding performance. Designed to offer a fast cruising platform, for her discerning owner, the Scape 51 is the new boat from renowned builder Scape Yachts, in Cape Town, South Africa. Chatting with the owner after the sail, he summed it all up by saying “She’s wonderful, everything we hoped for, that was fun sailing...”
Having developed a reputation for good quality at competitive prices, Scape Yachts is well known for their highly successful Scape 39, which is available in a number of configurations including a day charter version. Scape Yachts has upgraded their facility to build the Scape 51 and like the Scape 39, the Scape 51 is a solid, high performance platform designed to allow the customer the flexibility of choosing the deck arrangements that will best meet their individual needs, whether it be fast, safe passage making with family and friends, day sailing or charter operations.
Launched just over a week ago, in a low key event, the first Scape 51, called “Quality Time” was built for an owner that already operates a Scape 39 in St Maarten, as a day charter boat. Certified to carry 60 passengers, she is built to CE/ISO standards in SP Systems epoxy with Carbon reinforcing. Equipped with daggerboards she goes upwind well and with her large Code 0 is capable of sailing close to wind speed with a full load. This bodes well for owners opting for the cruising layout as it will ensure great performance, coupled with good load carrying capacity.
With sail trials completed, “Quality Time” was loaded with supplies and gear for the delivery trip directly to St. Maarten, over 6,000 nautical miles away. With a building SE wind, it was time to say good bye to the builders and family, as the crew slipped their lines and headed off. “Quality Time will be based in Philipsburg, St. Maarten and is available for day charter sailing. She will also be competing in the Heineken Cup and Antigua Race Week.
