I am trying to decide what I want in the way of a pre-owned Yacht..I am trying to decide between a Maxi 95 and a Contest 31. I am a day boat sailor, not terribly experienced and need an easy to sail reasonably roomy 5 berth yacht that will stand up to a bit of bad weather if I get caught out in a blow and not horribly expensive to maintain. I do not race and have no desire to cross the Southern Ocean. Ideally the boat would have room to have a heater and hot water supply fitted, a shower would be a bonus but not essential. i intend to cruise the UK south Coast, later the east cost and eventually the French coast and maybe the Med. Does anyone have experience of these 2 boats in that kind of role that they are willing to share?

regards

john

Hello-
Currently I am looking at a Contest 31. Seems solid...what did you choose and has it worked out?

If you want to be certain about containing costs, yopu must have a yacht survey done. This will show you what you need to do to put the yacht in proper condition, and get insurance. There will always be sone expense involved in this.

Afterwards, the best thing to say is "keep it simple". The more gadgets and electronics you put on board the more there is to go wrong. For example, for navigation, the minimum would be a) charts b) depth and speed indicator c) a handhekld GPS.

The Contest 31 is fine .

good luck.
