overheating only when in water

I have a 2005 Reinell with a 5.0l with a sx outdrive I am having a problem overheating. I have ran it with a garden hose and it runs fine, but when I have it in the water it overheats. Any ideas is there any tubes that go from the water inlet inside the outdrive?

Replace the small rubber water impeller located in your outdrive. My boat did the same thing - OK on a hose, but overheated in the water. The impeller was worn out. You have to drop the lower part of the unit to replace this part which is a bit inconvenient, but not too bad.
