Tilt motor failing on my outboard

I have a 75 HP 1985 Merc outboard in good condition except that the brushes are deteriorating on the trim/tilt motor brushes. Mercury does not supply the brushes, and a new installed motor is about $700! Is there some other way to get brushes for this motor?

Take the electric motor apart and remove the brushes.

Measure the guides that they are in and their approximate length.

Take that to an electrical repair shop and they will make up brushes for you.
