tach not working

Hi,when I bought my boat the tack wasn't hooked up and I can't find where it goes on engine?The tack has 3 connections for wires.Does anyone have any idea where these wires should go???

there is usually a tach sending unit on the flywheel that transmits a signal which then is converted into the RPM readout on the tach instrument head in the cockpit. your tach unit should be matched to your engine and alternator, contact your engine manufacturer and they should have a wiring diagram on the tach unit that will show where the wires attach and how the sending unit works.
