Mercury 4.5 hp

Hi,can anyone help me with a mercury 4.5,i was given it as a none runner and it would start with no water coming through,i changed the impeller and replaced the baffle plate on the water jacket,since then it will start and not respond to the throttle and all it does is rev high and cut out,i am out of ideads and was hoping somebody could help as i am on the point of throwing it in the bin,regards Colin

Change that,worked out it was lack of fuel and sorted that but now the water flows stopped again,if you loosen off the fresh water flush it comes flying out of there but i cant work out why its stopped coming through were its meant to after taken the carb apart.can anyone help please

when you put your new pump in did you put the key in the flat spot on the shaft enabling the pump to turn?

You ll need to excuse my ignorance but when you say pump do you mean the impeller? if so yes i fitted a new one and it seems to work as the waters getting as far as the water jacket but just not making it through to coming out,what i cant understand is it was coming through after many hours of stripping down and working out how to put it back and then it just stops apart from it comes out the freshwater flush ,

i own a merc 4.5 that had no water comming out when i first got it my problem was and maybe yours 2 if you pop the cover off and look to your lower left hand side you should see a hose running to a little black spout that exits the motor case take that hose off remove the black piece blow it out reinstall it as chances are when u ran it something got cloged in it not allowing water through hope that helped T.J

as for your throttle response take the cover off and look where your throttle shaft meets the motor and make sure you set it right lol might take some figuring out but that was my problem as well when i first got a merc 4.5 throttle was seized didnt spit out water once the throttle was unseized had to set the throttle up took an pain in ass hour but got it figured out lol

Hy i have a problem vithmy motor i dont now wy but the motor water stops given a water out and be came to be hot and turns off when the motor to hot ... what i sopoze to do right now to fix the water problem ????
