Topper, or Laser Pico? Or neither?

Hi all

I've been sailing on Tall Ships for several summers now, however my sailing began when I was 8, sailing various small dinghys including a Topper, an Enterprise, and a Mirror.

My girlfriend's family has bought a holiday house on the Baltic coast, on an island called Rugen, near here:

I've been researching boats for this, and this is a shopping list of what I'm looking for:
- low maintenance (the boat will be used several times a year, but a lot of the time it will be sitting unused)
- easy to rig and sail
- fun-fast (as opposed to race-fast)
- capable of taking more than one person (I want to be able to sail this by myself, but I expect that my girlfriend and her brothers would want to join me sometimes)
- cheap (I'm looking for the cheapest boat possible, while still having all of the attributes above, and still capable of being sailed for the next 5-10 years. My top, top budget is £1500 but would prefer sub-£1000.)

My shortlist currently contains a Laser Pico and a Topper.

Can anyone suggest any other boats that fit my criteria?

Also, what kind of maintenance would boats like these require?

If you look at the map, you will see that the sea on which I'd be sailing is quite calm. Do you think I'd be able to cross to the Insel Hiddensee (west from Insel Rugen)? It'd be a bonus if I could, but not necessary.
