Some advice on buying a dinghy

I used to sail when I was younger on a GP14 and I wish to get back onto the water. I am looking for a small dinghy, fibreglass construction if possible that I could possibly transport on a roof of a car. I have seen a few boats that appear to have no transom. Could somebody help with a few manufactures names and any applicable information. Oh yes also on a tight budget, second or third hand wont be a problem. Cheers

You don't say a great deal about what size of boat you are considering, but there are now a good number of second hand dinghies for sale on TheYachtMarket.com.

You may be unfamiliar with some of the classes so my recommendation would be to visit one or two local sailing clubs to see which classes are being sailed. It's always good to sail in a fleet with other similar boats and share your thoughts with like-minded sailors.

If you're uncertain about some of the newer classes, have a look at Noble Marine's Boatfinder http://www.noblemarine.co.uk/boatfinder.php3 which will provide a good amount of information on all the classes you are likely to encounter.
