Mainsheet lasooing outboard on my Wayfarer

I've attached an outboard to the back of my Wayfarer by clamping it to the transom on a pad.

Had a major problem with tacking and gybing with the mainsheet lasooing the outboard.

Would fitting the outboard via a proper bracket help matters?

I have seen aft sheeted boats with the block moved a foot forward on the boom to solve the outboard problem.

A bracket will largely solve your problem though. To be on the safe side though I tack round rather than gybe in rough conditions and usually grab hold of the falls of the mainsheet and pull the boom over thus making sure sheet and outboard don't coincide.
