Keel Protector strap Material

im replacing a keel protector strap on my grp sailing dinghy hull, was thinking about using naval brass with brass fastenings. The boat will mainly be used in freshwater however could on odd occasion use it in the sea. Is there something better for the job or is naval brass the way to go.
