Firling Jib

I have just got a topaz vibe from topper with a firling jib. The jib sail has come with the clips attached for the forestay which seems odd as when the sail is retracted the clips will push into the sail. Topper has said you can remove the clips but on doing this it leaves a small hole where each clip has been all up the sail by the wire. Has anyone encountered this problem before and can give me some advise.
