The answers may not be a simple as you had hoped

Are catamarans safe?
As safe as any other yacht.

What is the best catamaran? (Up to 55'/60)
It depends on what your requirements are. A 55 foot catamaran will be huge. Do you really need a boat this big?

Catamaran Manufactures?
As above

Best place to buy a catamaran - UK or abroad?
As above

Charter a catamaran - who is the best to do this through?
Chartering a catamaran would be a good way to find out if they fit your needs. Which company you use, will depend on where you want to take a holidayl?

Catamaran - life whats really like owning one?
Below decks they are more spacious and stable that a monohull, however mooring costs, because of the increased beam, will be far greater.
Insurance costs too will generally be greater than a monohull of a similar length.

well i think its hard to own a catamaran because its scary to ride on a boat in the sea and also it will be alot of money in the end you will not know what to do with the thing. i suggest:
if you like boats and not scard of riding it on the sea go ahead and try it out
but if your not sure and scared i suggest to try it out but dont buy it yet and if you like it go and get it

To the last person who responded: Please think before you write. Your response did not make any sense at all.

To the person who started this topic:
I suggest you look at Leopard catamarans. They are manufactured in Cape Town and are sold through The Moorings. The Moorings have a yacht owership programme that makes them as affordable as a monohull.
I also suggest that you contact one of the sailing companies in Turkey who do catamaran training. e.g. www.nautilus-yachting.com/

A lot of makes excist, just define your program and ask information with different catproducers. That information can be confusing because there are a lot of construction methods and a lot of different catamarans out there. Ask also information to Barramundi-catamarans, a yard in sri lanka that took over the Brazapi production and give excellent value for money (designs by erik lerouge)
A talk never hurts

We own a Beneteau 411 clipper which is 10 years old and love it great boat we thought of upgrading to a new Benteau 46 but no more space inside and not as well built In my opinion
So we went looking at cats and short listed very quickly to the new Lagoon 400. Well built and is still part of the Beneteau family, well thought out, for 40 ft cat and a great stable platform, trim and interior is a bit caravan ish but that can be adjusted. As for Moorings we have sourced competitive priced moorings as they are shallow draft and don't need deep water, but we are not Marina people. 50 ft + in a Cat is huge and unless you are chartering it out to groups or want to staff it it is not necessary. Most busy Mediterranean marinas will not take you in unless pre booked

The answers may not be a simple as you had hoped

Are catamarans safe?
I should say they can be the safest of all boats : they should be unsinkable. If you reef in time ( take care, you do not feel the windspeed correctly on a catamaran, you reef according to the instructions) they can not capsize or pitchpole

What is the best catamaran? (Up to 55'/60)
The best catamaran is light, stiff, has a big clearance under the bridge and is easy to manoever. Untill 55 foot it is not at all a problem to sail one alone ( one person for the food, one for the cat) The bigger the safer
47 foot is about the entry measure for worldcruising.
The best cat is the one who suits you best.

Catamaran Manufactures?
I can advise you on some but ofcourse I will try to defend our own .

Best place to buy a catamaran - UK or abroad?
It all depends but I think abroad, wages are to high in uk and Europe and a good cat cost a lot of workinghours

Charter a catamaran - who is the best to do this through?
there are not really good cats for charter. Chartercomponies make deals with producers and get them as cheap as possible. Unless you are portpeople, then you certainly will find the perfect cat for you,
Catamaran - life whats really like owning one?
More expensive mooring is not at all thrue: in principle you do not go into the port as much ( only in Europe) a good cat on anchor does nearly not move.
As for insurance costs: a cat is more expensive as a monohull, so ...
