Since 3 years I own a Banjer 37 from 1969 and I must say that the boat has exeeded expectations. Very well constructed, good in a seaway, very good for long distance cruising. Plenty of storage, large tanks, ergonomically well thought out. The only problem you will have is maneuvring in confined spaces. The rudder angle is limited and I would suggest fitting a bowthruster. My wife loves the boat!!! Please check www.banjer37.net

I own a Banjer, sailed her to Portugal where she is now. Had bad conditions, but this boat is incredibly safe and seagoing. I have the bowsprit version and she is sailing very well with winds up from 10 knts.
Since I am building a house in Portugal, my Banjer is for sale. Lying Vilamoura.
For more info abt. Banjer, see the website of the international Banjer Club.

I have owned my Fisher 37 since Oct 2004, and sail her in the seas waters around Scotland. By performance i guess you mean sailing performance, rather than living accommodation, etc. The Fisher 37s have always been applauded by their owners as good sail boats, in all aspects to the wind. Fisher 37s built 1984 onwards have taller rigs and this has boosted their sailing performance, especially upwind. The powerful engine make it perhaps too easy to motor when navigating tricky straits, but last year I had cause to tack upwind through a narrow strait , and was very pleased (and relieved!) my the Fisher 37 lived up to expectations, tacking close to the wind, picking up on each the new tack quickly, with little leeway. At 15 tonnes she loves a strong breeze to bring her alive. An example was crossing last summer from Iona (Isle of Mull, Staffa, etc). to Isle of Colonsay, in a force 5-6 beam reach, she got into the groove and was "leaping along like a dog off the lead" (to quote my guest crew). She can be sailed short-handed (skipper +1), and is very stable, handling rough seas very well. In Oct 04, I, with 2 crew, sailed her from Holland to Scotland across the North Sea close-reaching / close-hauled in force 6-7 sometimes 8 (reefed), and I fell in love with her sea sure-footness as she shrugged off the breaking waves. As is a long keeler if not sailing she can roll in a cross sea, I have experienced this only once while stooging outside Peterhead / Ratray Head, getting her moving soon brushed off the rolling. She has been categorized as a 50:50 motorsailer - sailing as well as she motors. Sorry I cannot compare objectively to Banjer 37 and Nauticat 38, as I have not experienced; I am sure they are fine boats too.

I motorsailed my fisher 37 from north carolina to newfoundland canada this past summer.Sea Cue handled heavy weather and seas which truly impressed me, loves stronger winds and comes alive 45 to 50 degrees off bow, when wind and current from astern in tight quarters-take care, side slop isn't great on this or any boat,Fisher is the only boat for me, after I took seas over the entire boat and another sailboat caught in same weather did the you know what 360 degrees, luckily S&Rescue got everybody off.

Thanks for posting about your trip in "Sea Cue" and her heavy seas abilities. I purchased "Gryphon" (1977 Fisher 37 PH) back in July of 2008 in Seattle and the logbooks detail over 62,000 miles of ocean cruising from the previous owners. Including the South Pacific, Central America, Carribean, Mediterranean, Alaska and points in between. I'll be cruising the PacNW for the next few years before going down the coast to Mexico and beyond.

A few questions:
- Did you have any additional panels over the pilothouse windows? My boat came with 1/4" lexan shields for the side and front pilothouse windows.
- Do you get used to the "blindspot" directly in front of the bow? Or have any clever recommendations for seeing where you're going? I've considered a camera up there with a display in the PH, but that doesn't seem very sailorly. I do sail from the cockpit sometimes steering with the tiller and standing on the seats so that I can see over the pilothouse....

Fairwinds!

I am a proud owner of a Fisher 37 for a half a year now. Bought it from Chicago area and send it to the Netherlands. I know how a boat ought to be, and the boat's overall structure and appearance is above expectations. She is from 2007.
