Round Britain in a Merry Fisher 625

I am taking my Merry Fisher 625 20ft motor boat Round Britain this year on behalf of the RNLI.

This exciting project is hugely exciting taking such a small boat around Britain.

Please take a look at my web site at http://www.roundbritain.org.uk

If you have questions or comments please register for the forum and feel free to discuss any aspects of the trip.

The web site includes the passage plan, details of the stop off ports, details of the boat and info about me.

We are looking for sponsors and also contributions to the RNLI to make the project a great success.

I look forward to talking more about it all with you.

Hello Paul - I've just stumbled on your round Britain site but it seems the link is no longer active.

I am considering a Merry Fisher 625 and would be grateful for your opinion on the boat having taken on such a trip. My other thought is if you are planning the trip in 2010 do you want to make it a pair of 625's?

It would be nice to hear from you, kind regards

Hi Jason,

For the size this boat is superb. It handled very well in all the seas I encountered. I encountered seas up to 2m and although I had to slow down to 6 or 7 kts at times it handled it very well and I never felt near the edge. Much of the time the sea was about 1m and I had to slow to 14kts... it would only plane at normal cruising speed in calmish sea. Normal cruise was 18-20kts with the 115hp engine. I managed an average of about 1lt per mile almost regardless of the speed!

We have had the boat now for 2 1/2 years now and love it but we are giving up boating for a while as we are getting a touring caravan. We can't use both so our Merry Fisher 625 is now for sale! We will be advertising this weekend but if you are interested get in touch by email at "snaxmuppet at gmail dot co dot uk".

Thank you John - This is the first mail I received, I missed Paul's initial reply which was a shame.

Since looking at the 625 I've also discovered the Quicksilver Weekend range, They aren't as well built as the Jeanneau's but I prefer the layout. I'm in the process of buying a business so might have to wait a while. I have a reserve pot from selling my last boat so maybe a late Christmas present!

Many thanks for your comments, regards - Jason
