Last week we installed a new 8.1L (496, 425-450 hp) into a 221 Liberator (1990), replacing the old 454 H.O. (370 hp). We did not change the Prop, witch is a S.S. Bravo 21". Now we are still running @ the same RPM as the last motor, but gained about 10 mph. Why??? Why am I gaining top speed, isn't RPM directly related to Pitch, how can I gain top speed without changing the lower unit or prop?
