mercury outboard motor 75 HP

I'm ready to purchase a used motor boat. Has a late model 75 hp mercury engine. I think it's a late 80's. Does anyone know how to find the year of this motor?

Take the number from the ID plate and check on the manufacturers web site. It should give you a date range fromthe serial number.
