Has anyone had any experience with exporting/importing used boats into the UK? From the math I did it looks like it could be profitable barring the cost of transporting the boat. Most of the listings of used boats that I have seen in the UK are selling at 35%-50% higher than comparable boats at US$ prices.

Hi Just noticed your thread, I probably have more experience in importing boats from US to UK than anyone, sounds a bit big headed but just happens to be true. If you want any help or advice dont hesitate in dropping us a mail.

Hi all i am also thinking of importing a boat from the US.I dont have a large budget to work with so was looking at a Bayliner 32,i have seen a few for $35000 and i think it will cost around $7000 for shipping and £2000 to get a CE certificate.I dont mind flying to the US to initialy choose and get the inspection done but then i wont be there when the boat gets shipped so i will be handing over money when i wont take delivery of the boat for weeks, any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated, thanks James.

The Bayliner 32 is a nice boat and we have CE Marked a few of these in the last few years. If you are considering purchasing any craft from the USA then make sure it is younger than a 1997. Actually, to be more specific, the engine must not be older than 1997. This is due to the engine emmission regulations. A 1980's boat would be fine as long as it was re-engined after 1997. See our website, boatcompliance.com, for a whole section on importing an American sports boat.
