Long shaft outboards or short shaft outboards?
Please help me ...

can you tell me the differance between Long shaft outboard engines or short shaft outboard engines?

I have a long shaft outboard engine on my fletcher and a guy told me that it was the wrong sort of outboard for my boat!

Why?

I think you use a long shaft outboard engine on a sailing boat as it has a long way to reach the water.

With a short shaft outboard engine, these are fitted to speed boats and sports boats.

I think if you fit long shaft outboard engine to a speed boat it will cavitate and you will lose performance.

a long shaft will just give a lower top end preformance and has a little more drag its not a big problem the fletchers are suited to short but long will be fine
