We are thinking about doing a tour of the Med and buying some land and building a villa and using the boat as a place to stay - pros and cons anyone?

Pros
Cheaper than renting a place
Nice in the Med but beware of prices in marinas in the summer months
Easy to move around

Cons
Small space for long term living (depending on your boat)
Less services than a house

Do people live on boats in Southampton Marinas? What are the pros and cons of doing this, say, whilst working in Southampton.
Thanks for any comments.

well it is winter now and if you have no heating it can get chilly. depends on which marina you choose and its facilities.

if you have a boat you can save money by sleeping on the boat and not in an hotel.

Thanks for reply. I do have heating on my boat (as long as I can access electricity on a pontoon!).
Do you know if many people live on boats in Southampton (during the winter). Could you recommend a Marina that would suit this. I am thinking of staying in Southampton from February to October 2007.
Thanks
