low rpm clatering noise

I have a 1992 boat that has a 454 mercruiser with 480 hours. At idle speed I hear a clattering noise at the rear of the engine. The best way I can desribe it is a small wrench inside the exhaust system is where it sounds to be coming from. Just wondering if this is a serious problem and could it cause me trouble. The boat runs fine other than that noise. At running speed the clattering is either stopped or drowned out... any advice.

well first check if theres a small spanner in the exhaust and then check the actual exhausts sometimes the rubbers that hold the exhaust in place wear away after about 500 hours on average. sometimes a bit of a job but could cause wrong back pressures and poisonous gasses coming in.
