Vanish or Epoxy

Our cabin sole is showing signs of wear an tear. Having sanded back to the bare wood and removed all vanish should we now revanish with marine quality vanish or epoxy?
We live onboard and also have a rather large dog which adds to heavy traffic loading.
Have you any suggestions
