fuel/water filter priming?

I am new to this. I have just replaced two water/fuel filters on my twin engine.

She is old, mid 70's. but two good chevy small block v8s. However.... I assumed that the fuel pump would suck the 'juice' into the new filter but apparently not.

How do I get the fuel to run from the tanks back into the filters and then onward to the engine?

Thanks,

deryl
