1985 Bayliner 4cyl. volvo 140 hp., turn key gauges go up but wont start all the time doesnt click or try at all but after awhile it will just start ,checked everything out not sure were to startstrange??? any ideas??

If the Starter moter clicks but does not turn most of the time and it works fine sometimes, there is a good chance the starder "Commutator has a bad segment. This is the section on the armature that the brushes ride on.

Very common starter problem for older starters. Boat or car.

Erm - change the brushes in the starter before you worry about a bad segment. Copper brushes are super cheap & should be easy to change
