boat paint
I need to paint my wooden boat. I've fibreglassed over the decks, some of the timber is new marine ply, some old with the old paint rubbed down. Can anyone offer any advice on what paint I should use (eg can I use one primer for all the different surfaces or should I use separate primers?) Also does anyone know any good paint suppliers who would be able to supply my paint and offer advice. I'm in North Lincolnshire

Re: boat paint
Our advice www.yachtsmartbrokerage.com is prepare the surfaces very well. Over the sheathed areas - key and degrease then apply epoxy high build primers and flatten this. Over coats will be in polyurethane twin pack and this will be very strong and resistant to wear. The hull itself presumed not to be sheathed requires all the old paint off. Suitable primers will be found at most chandlers, undercoats and top coats much the same. Remove old paint by blow torch and scraper (this is normal practice) ask a fisherman to show you how.
