Battery Connection

I have a deep cycle marine battery that I will be wiring to my engine (3.0 Volvo Penta) with new battery cables. The battery has both the large posts and wing nut/lock washer posts (similar to what you see on a battery switch). Can I use those screw terminals instead of the large posts for my connection? Is there any downside to doing so?
