Do any of these antifoul treatments actually work ? there seems to be plenty on the market , each one claiming they are better than everyone else

Depends on boats location, use, mooring, etc, etc.
I have found for mine in Cornwall, the cheapest (XM Cruising) did the job just fine, and that is on a tidal mud mooring.

Post a few more specifics and I'm sure someone will be able to help.
