2003 Monterey 180 edge (volvo Penta SX) slow to start and very sticky throttle

Can anyone give me suggestions on how I can improve my initial speed out of the hole? I usually drive with my wife and two young daughters (total family weight is around 450 lbs.) and the boat absolutely drags.

I'm also having problems with the throttle: it is very difficult to move. Ths stickyness makes me jult the boat every time I try to give it a little bit more gas or when I try to drive it in reverse. For what it's worth, I don;t seem to get any forward momentum until the throttle is about 2/3rd's of the way forward -- almost to the max point.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
Joe

Sounds like the cable linkage is set wrong, try disconnecting the clevis at the engine and see how the holes line up, this should be where the engine is on tickover, then slowley move the throttle forward until the holes are in line, if the cable travels too far before it starts to move the pump lever then this is your problem, this will also give the same problem as you have described......tight movement and jerky control.
hope this helps
