Description
Legendary Bounty Herreshoff Ketch The Wizard of Bristol, L Francis Herreshoff is world renowned for the beauty and performance of his designs, the Bounty class ketch AARLUUK being one of the most attractive examples. From her beautiful bow with varnished sprit to the classic stern overhang with wineglass transom, ARRLUUK is a modern classic ketch that is a standout wherever she travels.
ARRLUUK is a yacht of uncommon grace with exquisite design and build details. Examples are low freeboard, classic trunk cabin and traditional oval aft cockpit. On deck there are varnished teak trunk sides with custom opening ports, salon skylight, varnished cap rail and mortise and tenon dorade boxes, raised forepeak companionway and dedicated engine room entry.
The interior features beautiful varnished mahogany woodwork with raised panel doors and cabinets. All lockers have positive catches. The teak and holly cabin sole has a compass rose inlay design at the base of the companionway. The cabin sole is fully removable and has locking pulls. A graceful waterway under the ports runs the length of the interior of the trunk cabin. The white tongue and groove headliner detail is supported by white and mahogany faced deck beams.
In addition to being a standout wherever she cruises, ARRLUUK offers comfortable accommodations and modern equipment for cruising. The swept back spars are carbon fiber, reducing weight aloft and maintenance. All new rod rigging was added in 2006 and the deck hardware is polished stainless. Machinery includes a powerful Perkins diesel and AC power is provided by an 8KW Northern Lights generator.
Interior
The interior arrangement is designed to maximize the salon, cooking and navigation station areas. The separate crew cabin and chain locker are forward with raised trunk companionway entry with portholes providing light and ventilation. Aft of the crew cabin is one of two watertight bulkheads. The forward full width master stateroom with deck hatch and multiple fixed and opening ports is forward of the salon. Aft of the owner's cabin is a large head with shower to port, passageway to the salon and generous double hanging locker.
Amidships to port is a large salon with U shaped settee and attractive dining table. All the bulkheads are individual mahogany stavings, adding to the ambiance and character. To starboard is a long settee with curved backrest and deep leather seats. Custom built in lockers above and outboard of the settees provide additional storage.
Aft of the port settee is an impressive high cabinet with three sections. The upper section has wood framed glass sides and door and built-in clear glass holders. below is a cabinet door to the entertainment equipment followed by a taller double door to the ship's electric system breaker panel.
At the base of the main cabin companionway entry to starboard is a navigation center with seat. Above the table is a flat screen monitor and instrument cabinet. Outboard of the seat is a quarter berth with shelf lockers with custom doors to additional electronics. Opposite the navigation station is a proper ship's galley with excellent counter space and holding plate refrigeration and freezer boxes.
