Description
Robert Clark Long Keel Classic Cutter
Right Royal is a classic yacht built in 1951 for the Royal Engineers Yacht club. Designed by Robert Clark, she was built by J. I. Thorneycroft & co, Woolston in 1951. She was kept in class to Lloyds Register until 1964.
Hull planking is of Honduras Mahogany, splined, on Canadian Rock Elm timbers, fastened by copper nails and roves. Deck is of Western Red Cedar, and coachhouse and doghouse are of plywood. Deck, coachhouse and doghouse are sheathed with fibreglass/epoxy. She has a Lead keel.
She has four berths in two cabins and a separate heads and a good galley. Mechanical propulsion is by Volvo MD2 15.5bhp twin cylinder diesel (1964).
Originally rigged as a sloop, she is now a masthead cutter. The doghouse was added, and her layout below decks altered to make her more suitable for long term ocean cruising.
Right Royal has cruised from 60°N to 46°S, has circumnavigated the world, and should be quite capable of doing it again. She is an excellent sea boat.
