RIBCRAFT 5.3 Ideally suited for anything from a family leisure boat used for water-skiing to a serious rough water rescue craft. The Ribcraft 5.3 design is based on the classic Ribcraft 4.8 hull characteristics and design concept. The main design criteria was to produce a craft with increased deck space and load capacity whilst maintaining the 4.8’s ease of handling in and out of the water. She had to be seaworthy, light, strong and have a soft riding hull, all the characteristics that enabled three Ribcraft 4.8’s to complete a circumnavigation of Britain in just ten days.
The hull is designed to give greater lift at low speeds and plane faster. The Ribcraft 5.3 is the first Ribcraft hull to be totally designed using the latest computer aided design; the hull’s plug was cut directly from the computer model utilising computer controlled machining. The Interior
Ribcraft can customise the Internal layout for any application from family cruising to commercial use, diving, sailing club safety and rescue. The Ribcraft 5.3 has generous internal deck space to accommodate anything from racing marks, rescue equipment, or family seating layouts. All control cables are routed below deck ensuring an uncluttered free working area.

Why Choose Ribcraft? Ribcraft are one of the few British manufactures who build the complete boat "In House" We manufacture the hull, tubes, tube fittings, consoles, seating, fuel systems, 'A' frames all at our Yeovil Factory. We also have on-site Stainless steel and Aluminium fabrication. Ribcraft originally started building boats in the late eighties; at the start we had one model in our range. We have grown into what we are today by earning a reputation for building reliable, well constructed boats. We have not been formed by a large corporation or outside funding but have built our business solely on Manufacturing Rigid Inflatables. You are dealing with people who have lots of experience in using Rigid Inflatables and can offer sound advice. You are not dealing with a salesman just selling the end product out of a brochure. Our consoles and seating are designed to be as user friendly and comfortable as possible in rougher conditions (and of course are all made by us). This is the reason why all of our consoles and seats are fibreglass bonded to the deck, it increases the strength and insures they are waterproofed. Bonding consoles and seats into boats actually costs far more in time and materials than using self-taping screws. Take a look at the waterproof and strength qualities next time you look at another manufactures seating and consoles. We only manufacture our Inflation tubes in Hypalon material. Ask anyone who has had years of experience in using Rib's why Hypalon is the only fabric to use, and they will all tell you the same thing, because you can repair it extremely easily should the need arise. Hypalon is by far the longest lasting tube fabric available due to its long-term serviceability. This is reinforced by organizations that use it (R.N.L.I., MOD etc) Ribcraft's fuel tanks are all made from Stainless Steel and are housed under the deck. This insures that the weight is at the lowest centre of gravity in the boat and thus helps the handling. It also frees up storage space under the console. This method is far superior to under console plastic tanks and is proven over many years of use; the downside is that it's more expensive. Ribcraft were the first manufacture to use under deck trunking system as standard on all our range. All cabling is run directly from the console to the stern, leaving a completely un-cluttered deck. This system protects the cables from harm and also makes a very tidy installation. Our engine installation is well thought out, all our batteries and equipment live under the console to keep them from harms way, we manufacture complete new battery cables for this. All the engines are fitted at the correct height and have the correct amount of offset. Ribcraft also offer a Propeller exchange scheme to insure the customer has the right propeller for the given application. Ribcraft use a dedicated electrician for all of our electrical Installations, take at a look at our Lifeboat Specification boats for an idea of what can be achieved. Next time you see a Ribcraft on the water or at a boat-show, have a close look at our build quality and the standard of equipment we fit on our boats. If you are looking for a budget Rib or are buying on the bottom line price you are going to need to look elsewhere.
The Construction Ribcraft Introduction Founded in the late eighties Ribcraft has gained an enviable reputation as a leading builder of custom and production rigid inflatable boats (Ribs). Ribcraft are based in their own purpose built factory in Yeovil Somerset. They are one of the few British manufacturers who have the capabilities to design and manufacture the complete boat ‘in house’ giving them total quality control throughout. The company place great emphasis on safety, durability and quality of construction, each new project undergoes a rigorous testing and commissioning schedule utilising the notorious waters off Portland Bill as their testing ground. Ribcraft are keen to accommodate individual requirements and have a flexible approach when dealing with customers as diverse as leisure users from sunny Greece to factory ships in the North Sea or divers, military and commercial buyers. Ribcraft work closely with major engine and propulsion manufacturers and have expert knowledge of the installation of complex propulsion systems including water jets, sterndrives and outboard installations. The Design To gain the optimum efficiency from a rigid inflatable a Hull must be designed to get the operator quickly onto the plane. The craft handling must be very responsive and the boat must be sea-worthy enough and constructed to face the most inhospitable sea conditions world-wide. Ribcraft have been associated with a designer, the late George Marvin C Eng. m.r.i.n.a. who had the reputation of being the most experienced designer of Ribs in the industry through his works in fluid dynamics. Ribcraft’s hulls are based on a deep ‘V’ format with full length spray rails and outer gunwale chines with convex hull forms coupled to a generous sheer line towards the bow. Ribcraft's main goal is to produce a well built high strength boat and our attention to detail and overall workmanship are second to none in the Industry. The critical hull shape is just as important as the way the hull and deck structures are brought together. Ribcraft use a complex system of longitudinal, transverse and intermediate deck beams to support and tie together both hull and deck Engine Options Ribcraft are able to offer a wide choice when it comes to choosing the power plant for your rigid inflatable. Working closely with the major engine and propulsion manufactures Ribcraft have a sound knowledge of the installation of complex propulsion systems including water jets, sterndrives and outboard installations. Ribcraft are able to supply any make of engine depending on your personal preference. Ribcraft are agents for Yanmar, Yamaha and Volvo diesel Inboards and Mariner, Yamaha and Honda Outboard Motors. By choice we have a close working relationship with these manufactures, this benefits the customer by giving the highest level of after-sales and technical backup. Three Ribcraft 4.8's completed the Round Britain Challenge June 2001. "All in all, Over 1,600 miles of every type of sea, we never once felt compromised, in danger or fatigued by the ride given by the boat itself - a testimony then to Ribcraft's product, Workmanship and practical attention to detail" Steve Harvey of Team Ribex wrote in the December Issue of RIB International Magazine The Hull Ribcraft’s Hulls can be constructed in Aluminium, G.R.P. or composite materials, Into highly polished tooling moulds Lloyds approved Chop Strand Mat and roving clothes are placed and laminated into position by Ribcraft’s highly skilled laminators. All stages of construction are closely monitored by computer to ensure correct humidity and temperature resulting in even curing and an immensely strong blister free hull. Ribcraft’s carpenters install the timber works ready for bonding, once laminated into position the hull interior is gel washed to prevent delaminating in later years. The hull is then de-moulded and stainless steel fuel tanks installed, the deck and internal mouldings are bonded into place and final deck finishing completed. The hull is now ready for the attachment of the inflatable collar. The Tube Ribcraft are one of the few manufacturers who make their own tubes. The tubes are hand made to individual application or requirement by experienced experts. Buoyancy Tubes are constructed from internationally recognised materials either flexible closed cell foam or Hypalon® inflatable collars; Du Pont Hypalon is the main material which is used for sponsons world-wide and is popular for it’s durability and ease of repair. Tubes are cut to exacting patterns by hand, abraded to all bonding surfaces then formed into the collar with all internal and external seam tapes bonded with Bostik 2402®, the international leader in adhesive and sponson technology. Humidity and temperature is monitored by computer to ensure ideal conditions for maximum adhesion strength. The Tubes are thoroughly pressure tested to international standards before installation. Outfitting Ribcraft offer complete packages including engine, propulsion system, electrical/electronic systems, trailers, stainless steel and steel fabrication. All options can be tailored to individual requirements and professionally fitted to the highest standards by Ribcraft factory-trained technicians. Ribcraft have on-site stainless steel fabrication and custom build to any requirement, Ribcraft have their own electrician and can design and install special equipment such as fully immersion proof electric's as seen on their Lifeboat specification boats. After Sales Ribcraft are proud to be able to offer after sales service and technical backup to all our customers, Whether your boat is six months old or six years old we will be able to offer advice on all aspects of your craft. Ribcraft have there own factory trained technicians who have the technical expertise to offer sound advise if you should encounter engine mechanical problems in forthcoming years of ownership. Ribcraft also offer a back up parts service to find the part you need with the minimum of fuss.
