Pioneer 10
Solidly built by Southern Ocean Shipyard, the Pioneer 10's launch was overshadowed by the prettier Contessa 32. Which is a shame as these powerful cruisers have excellent performance, the later models such as this with the skeg hung rudder being fast and steady on the helm. Also with the greater beam they have better accommodation with more room below, especially forward of the mast, and with prices well below the Contessa, they represent excellent value for money. This good example has been recently epoxied, the mast replaced, good sails and a reliable and economical Ford diesel engine.
Accommodation
The accommodation offers five berths in two cabins with full standingf headroom. V berth forward with stowage under. Opening hatch to foredeck. Full width heads compartment with marine toilet and washbasin. In saloon, two settee berths. Fixed table with folding leaves. Chart table to port with quarter berth behind and galley opposite. Two burner gimballed gas cooker with grill and oven. Stainless steel sink with manually pumped water. 20 gallons freshwater capacity. Coolbox.
Mechanical Systems
Located abaft the companionway, Ford Sea Panther four cylinder 28hp diesel engine. Electric start. Freshwater cooled via heat exchanger. Shaft drive to two bladed folding propeller. 11 gallons fuel capacity giving approximately 150 mile range at 5 knots cruising speed. Maximum speed under power 6.5 knots. Single lever control.

Alternator charging to 2 x 12 volt batteries (2005/7).
Sails & Spars
Masthead rigged sloop. Anodised aluminium mast and boom (1998).
