Description

Forster 50 ft Ketch Motor Sailer
BROKERS COMMENTS

Soon after her launch Yachting Monthly commented on her well proportioned deckhouse and ease of handling. It could be said that a motor sailer from any era can appear a tad too wholesome and unlikely to seduce; however, MARGARETTA is a clever blend and succeeds both with good looks and balance of rig. Built at Newman & Son in Poole in 1937 she has enjoyed the life ? her current owners of nearly 20 years have spoilt her while cruising their spectacular home waters near Vancouver and we dare you to visit her !

MARGARETTA II is a robust and uncomplicated boat, ready to head out anywhere and very easy for 2 people to handle both under sail and power.

CONSTRUCTION

Pitch pine on oak frames. Decks are 3 layers of inch marine ply glued and screwed with epoxy cloth overlay. Cedar log bulwarks with Honduras mahogany caps. Cabins are all teak, cabin sides are one plank 2 inch thick, 16 inch high and 20 ft, running the entire length from for?ard the main mast to aft. Cabin soles are all teak planking.

ACCOMMODATION

There is accommodation for 5 in 3 cabins. From the lazarettte accessed by hatch cover, the deck skirting the after cabin, access to the cockpit and deckhouse is over high coamings either side. The central cockpit has its fore end under the shelter of the neatly proportioned deck house from which the main companion leads down to the main cabin with galley immediately to port and chart table opposite with saloon forward. A doorway aft accesses a lobby area with space enough to remove wet oilskins for hanging close to the engine room amidships below the cockpit. Another door accesses the aft cabin, arranged with a single berth to starboard with some stowage, head with WC and shower / basin to port and a Dickinson oil heating stove.

Coming forward again through the two doorways, the galley to port has a Sigmar Sig-250 oil burning cooking range and Norcold refrigerator with stowage outboard. For?ard to port is a settee and table with sea berth outboard above, with additional settee and berth similarly arranged opposite. Another doorway leads to the fore cabin laid out with double berth to port with generous stowage beneath and more stowage and seating to starboard. This cabin is also accessible form the forward hatch, abaft the fore deck winch. Beyond lies the fore peak - open for stowing sails.
