Description
Alliaura Privilege 585
We sold this Privilege new to the present owner in 2006, and one of the outstanding points about this P585, and why we enthuse about her being the best P585 built, is because she was kept simple and light. It is easy for owners to add generators, hydraulic passrails, extra anchors and chains, batteries, large RIBs, etc, so the cumulative weight makes their boat slower. This boat sails beautifully, we have sailed her out in the Atlantic on different occasions and can personally vouch for this, particularly as we have test-sailed and test-cruised every one of our P585s delivered.
A very creative designer used her skills in choosing the layouts and materials inside. The first impression is that the boat is light and airy. Beechwood finish, light Corian surfaces, white leather seating, light blinds/curtains, etc., so she gives a great feeling of space and cleanliness. Added to this, the owners have kept her meticulously well maintained. You will see that the Owners stateroom has an access door into the salon, which is a handy option. The piéce de resistance is the Day Bed in the salon. This was originally the owner’s idea, because he liked to relax with his family all cuddled up together, but it also turned out to be a superb ‘watchkeeper berth’ for use on passage. There is also good and accessible storage under. You can also see from the plan there is an extra pipe cot type berth port fwd, but of course it is finished off properly as are the other berths, not an aluminium tube and canvas construction. Incidentally, all mattresses in Privileges are full orthopaedic Bultox with ventilation slatting under.
Boats of this calibre do not come along very often. She was the last Privilege 585 to be produced in the classic styling, which did not include a flybridge. She is the right tool for the job to cross oceans, circumnavigate, explore small islands, yet not so big so she may still be sailed short-handed.
Out of all the boats this company has sold over the years (1,500+), this is the one we would choose for liveaboard blue water sailing.
