History of Fairey Marine

Founded in the early 20th century, Fairey Marine began its voyage in Hamble, just outside Southampton, UK. Initially, Fairey Marine was born out of Fairey Aviation, a pioneering brand steeped in aviation history, known for manufacturing a vast array of esteemed military aircraft. Sir Richard Fairey, the innovative English aviation engineer and founder of Fairey Aviation, sought to diversify the company’s portfolio into the marine industry after World War II. Using its aviation expertise, Fairey Marine went on to design and build sturdy and innovative boats, incorporating design elements from their aircrafts.

In the late 1950s, Fairey Marine launched the Fairey Huntsman, their most famous and enduring powerboat model, which quickly gained a reputation for strength, reliability, and top-notch performance. The Fairey Huntsman and Dunkirk Little Ships were just some of the many noteworthy creations that attest to Fairey Marine's legacy in the boat-manufacturing world. Made using a revolutionary material called Agba, a tropical hardwood, and Hot Moulded construction technologies learnt from aircraft production, Fairey Powerboats quickly became synonymous with unrivalled capabilities and durability.

Fast forward to the present day, Fairey Marine boats have firmly secured their place in the pantheon of classic powerboats and are cherished by boating enthusiasts worldwide. After over a century in existence, Fairey Marine now operates out of Hamble Point Marina, Southampton. Whilst the company stopped producing its own boats in the early 80s, Fairey Club members and enthusiasts alike continue to preserve and cherish the Fairey Marine legacy, ensuring these marvelous boats can still be seen cruising the waterways. Over the years, the company and its creations have carved out an indelible mark in marine history and continue to inspire respect and admiration amongst marine industry experts and enthusiasts.
