History of Contest Yachts

Founded in 1959 by the Conijn family, Contest Yachts is a Dutch sail and motor yacht constructor of exceptional pedigree. This legacy company was born in the heart of the Netherlands, a country renowned for its centuries-old shipbuilding tradition. Contest Yachts' original shipyard was located by the North Sea Canal, a place that provided the perfect base for seaworthy sailing and motor yachts construction. Still entirely family-owned, the company has etched its name into the Dutch yacht building industry as a paragon of excellence. Their unwavering commitment to quality, innovation, and the highest standards of craftsmanship set them apart.

Over the decades, they relocated their manufacturing site from the canal area to the Ijsselmeer lake, settling finally in Medemblik. This location continues to serve as their primary base of operations while offering an immediate testing ground for finished yachts due to its direct open-water connection to the sea. Over the years, with the expertise and craftmanship from the Conijn family, matched only by the designs from distinguished designers, Contest Yachts evolved from producing small sailing yachts to a versatile range of yachts up to 26 metres long, integrating traditional techniques with the latest industry advancements.

Today, Contest Yachts is a leading name globally in both the luxury sail and motor yacht markets. Their strict quality control processes, exceptional designs and meticulous build quality ensure every Contest yacht that leaves their shipyard represents the pinnacle of Dutch yacht building. Their continued success has allowed the business to grow significantly, all while retaining the irreplaceable family-touch that has underpinned their success and continues to define the Contest Yachts brand.
